Our Story

What began as a small commercial kitchen making condiments and spice pastes has grown into a much-loved ready prepared meal business (with desserts, treats and other delicious add ons!) serving people all over Auckland.

After many years of café ownership, the original wholesale operation started from our Birkenhead kitchen in 2008. As often happens with good food ideas, the direction shifted along the way.

Customers kept coming back for our spice pastes and asking, “Why don’t you just cook the whole meal?” So we gave it a go — opening the shop just on Fridays to start with. It didn’t take long for word to spread, and within two years we were open full-time, with demand growing fast for our fresh and frozen meals.

Today, we make a wide range of prepared meals designed to take the stress out of dinner. Everything is cooked with care using quality ingredients, making it easy to enjoy wholesome, nutritious meals at home — whether you pick them up from our store or have them delivered.

Owners: Nikki & Christine

After many years working together, Nikki became a co-owner of Casual Foodie in 2014. With her background as a Head Chef, Nikki brings incredible attention to detail, consistency, and a genuine passion for good food. She’s always finding ways to improve what we do, and after more than 25 years working side by side, we’re still great friends.

Our Birkenhead store is now open six days a week, with a team of 13 producing over 40,000 meals each month. Nearly all of our staff live locally, and that strong sense of community is something we’re proud of.

Loved by foodies across Auckland, we’re known for flavour-packed dinners, comforting home baking, and meals that taste like they’ve come straight from your own kitchen.
